{"id":3188,"date":"2023-06-05T09:59:10","date_gmt":"2023-06-05T13:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=3188"},"modified":"2023-06-05T09:59:12","modified_gmt":"2023-06-05T13:59:12","slug":"bid-awarded-for-painting-of-decatur-water-tower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/05\/bid-awarded-for-painting-of-decatur-water-tower\/","title":{"rendered":"Bid awarded for painting of Decatur water tower"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LC United Painting wasn&#8217;t the lowest bidder, but it has been awarded the contract to paint Decatur&#8217;s south water tower, off Line St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dixon Engineering, hired by the city to provide specifications for the project, recommended using the Sterling Heights, Michigan, firm, which painted the city&#8217;s east water tower last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dixon&#8217;s Paul Spitzley (right in photo) attended the recent meeting of the Decatur Board of Works and Safety. He listed what he said were \u201csome concerns\u201d with the lowest bidder, E&amp;L Contractors, which bid $223,900.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And since LC United had already painted Decatur&#8217;s east tower and satisfied local officials with its work, he said he would recommend staying with LC \u201csince the second lowest bid wasn&#8217;t that much lower\u201d than LC&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fedewa Inc. had bid $239,999, while LC United&#8217;s bid was $248,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three other bids were well over $300,000 and a seventh bid topped $400,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $248,000 cost \u201cwas what I was hoping for, right in that range,\u201d city Utilities Director Kevin Hackman (left in photo) said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tower&#8217;s new paint scheme will be the same as the east tower at Piqua Rd. and E.
