Two teams struggling to get above .500 and gain a foothold in a very tough and competitive ACAC met on Thursday night with plenty on the line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, and it was Adams Central versus South Adams, as if the two teams didn’t already have enough on the line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adams Central led the contest throughout, and despite a comeback attempt by the Stars, it was ultimately the Jets who took home the victory, winning 52-41. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kate Fisher had an outstanding game for the winners, knocking down four threes to lead the team with 21 points. She nailed three of those long-range shots in the third quarter to keep the Jets in the lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Defensively we did not communicate well tonight,” noted SA head coach Brett Freeman after the contest. “We did not key in on their key scorers.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freeman was, of course, talking about Fisher and Ava Stafford, who added 16 in the win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stafford had ten points as the Jets put things away in the fourth, doubling up the Stars in the final stanza, 14-7. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We really struggled to take care of the ball again tonight,” said Freeman. “Some of it was decision making and some of it was just being very timid with the ball. We can’t continue to turn the ball over at this rate and expect to get positive results.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jets led 14-4 after the first quarter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We just dug ourselves into another hole early,” Freeman lamented. “The girls did a great job to battle back before half and give us some positive energy going into the locker room.” South Adams trailed 23-17 at the break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ana Lehman led the Stars with 14 points and Laney Trausch added twelve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They were able to get some big putbacks down the stretch that kept us at bay,” Freeman pointed out. “It’s not going to get any easier as we head to Jay County on Saturday.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adams Central moved to 5-6 on the season with their first win in the ACAC, while South Adams dropped to 5-7 and 1-2 in the conference. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
