The Starfires won again on the road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just 24 hours after dispatching the South Side Archers, coach Brett Freeman’s team beat Eastbrook Wednesday, 47-39.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This one, however, was quite different from the win on Tuesday, where the Stars had to figure out a way to come from behind against a winless team that was hungry for a victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Adams led throughout Wednesday night, taking an 11-point lead into halftime on a night when they could get to .500 for the first time since both Pries girls were on the court for the team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was not pretty, however, said the coach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We were really out of sync tonight on both ends,” noted Freeman, who knew his team might struggle with back-to-back long road trips on consecutive nights. “It seemed like we were really flat tonight. Offensively, we were making a lot of unforced turnovers that took away from our scoring opportunities. We had moments where we were connected, but just very out of sync.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eastbrook did make a comeback attempt, outscoring the Stars in the third and cutting the lead to 32-27, but the Starfires bounced back in the fourth to put the Panthers away and score their fifth win of the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ana Lehman led the team with 19 points and Laney Trausch had 16. Importantly, they combined for a good night at the line, finishing a combined 9 of 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shaylee Sprunger had a nice night, scoring nine points in the win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Defensively, we weren’t talking like we need to and giving up far too many good looks,” said Freeman after the game. “Hopefully it just extends from playing four games on the road in a week’s time, and this game being a back to back.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Stars will get some much needed gym time at home the rest of the week before playing a pair of home games next week: Monday against Monroe Central and Thursday against Adams Central. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’ll definitely work to get things back on the right track before next week. A win is a win, and we went 3-1 in those 4 road games. I know these girls will work to be better.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
