{"id":3127,"date":"2023-06-03T09:05:14","date_gmt":"2023-06-03T13:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=3127"},"modified":"2023-06-08T14:25:18","modified_gmt":"2023-06-08T18:25:18","slug":"hoffman-land-represent-z-land-at-state-track-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/03\/hoffman-land-represent-z-land-at-state-track-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Hoffman, Land represent Z-Land at State Track Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>RANDY HISNER<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local throwers Trenton Hoffman of Adams Central and Leviticus Land of Heritage finished their stellar high school careers with solid performances in the IHSAA State Track and Field Meet Friday at Indiana University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoffman was seeded 24<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;out of 29 throwers in the discus but climbed to 18<sup>th<\/sup>, despite falling a few feet short of his personal record. (Photo by Randy Hisner)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoffman stayed calm on the crucial third attempt. \u201cI honestly didn\u2019t feel a lot of pressure from anywhere,\u201d he said. \u201cI was like, \u2018Man, I just gotta let this one rip.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s exactly what he did, and it moved him past eight other throwers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/New-Recording-69.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Trenton Hoffman and Randy Hisner discuss the senior&#8217;s performance at the State Finals.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Though it was his first experience in the state meet, Hoffman took it all in stride. \u201cIt didn\u2019t feel any different than a normal meet, except the competition was a lot steeper,\u201d he said. \u201cI did the same thing I\u2019ve done for seven years now, just getting into a ring and spinning a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there were some difficult circumstances to deal with\u2014like the oppressive heat that built up sweat on throwers\u2019 hands. \u201cThe heat changes things a lot, for your grip and release,\u201d Hoffman commented.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt just saps energy,\u201d he added. \u201cThat\u2019s why I have an umbrella, because this 90-degree weather, with no breeze, no clouds\u2014yeah, it kills you. I\u2019ve been drinking Gatorade and water since we left Monroe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adams Central throws coach Neil Henning wasn\u2019t surprised that Hoffman came up big on his last throw by not overthinking things. \u201cHe did what he needed to do to up his mark on that third throw,\u201d Henning said. \u201cYou do all your thinking in practice. Once we get here it\u2019s game time. Junior Dane Sebert of Eastside, the Carroll Regional champion, was the top finisher from the Fort Wayne area. Charley Riddle, his Heritage teammate, had beaten him by six feet in the sectional with his school-record effort of 55-11. Adams Central\u2019s Zac Worm (55-3.75) beat him at sectional too. (Photo by Randy Hisner)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But he shined at the regional with that big PR of 51-11 that beat both Riddle and Wurm and, once again, earned him the last qualifying spot for the next level\u2014state. \u201cI was a little surprised to make it out,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/New-Recording-70.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Leviticus Land of Heritage spoke with Randy Hisner after completing his throws in the shot put at Bloomington Friday. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once he got there, though, he shook off any jitters and threw his 51-footer on his first throw. Like Hoffman, he felt he had an even better second throw\u2014estimated at around 54 feet\u2014but he fouled on the attempt, so it wasn\u2019t measured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luke Himes of Heritage Christian, a junior, won the shot put with a heave of 65-1.5. Sebert, in tenth with a 55-5.75, was again the top finisher from the Carroll Regional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brownsburg won the team title with 55 points to the 50 of runner-up Carmel. Homestead scored 19 points to finish 11<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;as the top area team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only individual champion from the Carroll Regional was Angola\u2019s Alex Meyer, who won the long jump with a leap of 24-2.
