The South Adams Starfires picked up their second victory of the season in convincing fashion Monday, jumping out to a huge lead and never looking back to end a two-game losing streak by beating Winchester 65-15. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We were off to a fast start tonight,” said coach Brett Freeman in his postgame comments to WZBD. “The girls did a great job of being aggressive and getting some shots at the rim. Our pressure was giving them lots of problems.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Adams’ lead stood at twenty points after the first eight minutes at 23-3 and the Starfire defense allowed only six made field goals from the Falcons in the entire game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our halfcourt defense was aggressive and led to some good fast break opportunities,” noted Freeman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ana Lehman led the Stars in scoring with 19 points, including a couple of threes. Laney Trausch had 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In the second half we really focused on a few things,” said the coach, “and I feel that we did a good job of building on those areas.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freeman also noted that all nine players who came into the game made it into the scoring column. Lucy Schwartz (9 points) and Kennedy Bollenbacher (6) both knocked down shots in the game. Adalyn Smith had four points, Mariana Tenorio had three, and Shaylee Sprunger, Charlee Bollenbacher and Kenley Geels each scored two points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’ll need to take that kind of balanced scoring on the road,” said Freeman, referring to the team’s three upcoming road games in the next week. Saturday’s game at Heritage will be heard on WZBD, 92.7 FM and the team will play at South Side next Tuesday and again next Wednesday at Eastbrook. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
