Little critters. Critters that barked. Critters that meowed. Critters with wings. Critters with long tails. Critters that slithered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The occasion was the Decatur Parks and Recreation Department&#8217;s annual animal adoption event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A nice-sized turnout of people came out to look over the numerous animals and, hopefully, some \u2013critters, not people \u2013 latched onto a new home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"618\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q-licked-in-face.jpg?resize=640%2C618&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30754\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q-licked-in-face.jpg?w=855&amp;ssl=1 855w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q-licked-in-face.jpg?resize=300%2C290&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q-licked-in-face.jpg?resize=768%2C742&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The parks department partnered with several animal-welfare groups to hold the event in the big room at the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Represented were PAWS of Adams County, Werling Wildlife Rehabilitation &amp; Education Center, Lennox Legacy Rescue Inc., and the Adams County Animal Shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Werling organization also held a fundraiser for the local Hero Meals group. Donations of boxes of cereal, canned soup, and canned veggies were requested, and cash donations were accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"335\" height=\"592\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q-kid-snake.jpg?resize=335%2C592&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30755\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q-kid-snake.jpg?w=335&amp;ssl=1 335w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Q-kid-snake.jpg?resize=170%2C300&amp;ssl=1 170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 335px) 100vw, 335px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hero Meals is a community-based organization that provides free and nutritious meals to North Adams Schools students and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meals include primarily non-perishable food items which can easily be prepared to meet a family&#8217;s needs through weekends and holidays. Any student who is eligible for the Free &amp; Reduced Meals program at North Adams qualifies to participate in Hero Meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hero Meals volunteers gather each week to fill bags with the food items which are then taken to the school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Critters took over Riverside Center in Decatur Saturday afternoon.
