{"id":30451,"date":"2025-10-31T14:29:39","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T18:29:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=30451"},"modified":"2025-10-31T14:29:41","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T18:29:41","slug":"yellow-ribbons-to-go-up-in-decatur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/31\/yellow-ribbons-to-go-up-in-decatur\/","title":{"rendered":"Yellow ribbons to go up in Decatur"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The yellow ribbons for veterans are returning to Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gary Edwards and Karen Fageol, representing the American Legion Riders of Adams Post 43 in Decatur, attended the latest meeting of city council to ask for permission to place the ribbons in various areas of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"580\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Gary-Edwards-Fageol.jpg?resize=640%2C580&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30452\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Gary-Edwards-Fageol.jpg?w=815&amp;ssl=1 815w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Gary-Edwards-Fageol.jpg?resize=300%2C272&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Gary-Edwards-Fageol.jpg?resize=768%2C695&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Permission was, of course, quick and unanimous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edwards said the yellow ribbons will be tied to posts, trees, light poles, etc. Included will be the Macklin and Jackson St. bridges in downtown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ribbons will be going up this Saturday \u2013 and be in place for Nov. 11 Veterans&#8217; Day \u2013 then be taken down on the last Saturday of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have talked to veterans who really appreciate them,\u201d Fageol noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The traditional yellow ribbon is a symbol of support and is tied to trees and elsewhere, signifying hope for a loved one&#8217;s safe return from duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tradition dates back centuries, with widespread popularity in the early 1990s during the Gulf War.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com The yellow ribbons for veterans are returning to Decatur.
