{"id":30376,"date":"2025-10-26T16:58:33","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T20:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=30376"},"modified":"2025-10-26T16:58:35","modified_gmt":"2025-10-26T20:58:35","slug":"funeral-services-set-for-former-decatur-mayor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/26\/funeral-services-set-for-former-decatur-mayor\/","title":{"rendered":"Funeral services set for former Decatur mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funeral services will be held&nbsp;on Tuesday, Nov. 4, for former Decatur mayor John Schultz, who died Friday at the age of 76.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"220\" height=\"283\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/John-Schultz.jpeg?resize=220%2C283&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30377\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered&nbsp;at 11 a.m.&nbsp;that day in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitation will be held&nbsp;from 2-7 p.m. on Monday, November 3, at Haggard-Hirschy &amp; Zelt Funeral Home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schultz, a Vietnam veteran, served many years as a city official while president of Baker &amp; Schultz Construction. After three terms on city council, he was elected mayor in 2008, succeeding Fred Isch.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He served two terms as mayor before before choosing not to seek a third term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, he was elected to Adams County Council, beginning in 2019.
