{"id":2985,"date":"2023-05-30T09:31:23","date_gmt":"2023-05-30T13:31:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=2985"},"modified":"2023-05-30T09:31:26","modified_gmt":"2023-05-30T13:31:26","slug":"luers-ends-acs-season-with-three-run-seventh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/30\/luers-ends-acs-season-with-three-run-seventh\/","title":{"rendered":"Luers ends AC&#8217;s season with three-run seventh"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Adams Central and Bishop Luers played a game worthy of being called a championship game, with both teams entering the decisive final inning with one run on the scoreboard, but it was a three-run rally by the Knights in the top of the seventh that ultimately gave Luers their first sectional baseball title since 2012 as they defeated the Jets 4-1.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/SECTionalLUERS4AC1.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>WZBD&#8217;s Steve Rouse provides a recap of Monday&#8217;s 2A championship game between Adams Central and Bishop Luers. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were projected to finish last in the ACAC this year,\u201d noted AC head coach Josh Foster of his team\u2019s performance in 2023. \u201cWe finished fourth but were right there with all those other teams. Not many gave us a chance to win a sectional but there we were, three outs from it. While we didn\u2019t quite finish where we wanted to, we did some great things along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cade Van De Weg had allowed just one run in his first six innings of work, keeping the Jets\u2019 hopes alive even as the bats fell somewhat cold on a warm Memorial Day. Jaden Mays was ready to sacrifice himself to move both runners over, but the Jets made a mess of it, missing out on the opportunity to get an out and instead allowing West\u2019s courtesy runner to score and Diehm to take third base.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both runners advanced on a wild pitch with Nate Heflin at the plate, with Diehm scoring to make it 3-1. He was charged with the one unearned run.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luers will take on Westview Saturday for the regional championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Foster thankful for senior guidance in first season in charge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting on the final game of the year, Foster was intentional in thanking those who had helped him in his first year at the helm of the Adams Central program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI told my seniors that I appreciate them helping me navigate this first season,\u201d said Foster. \u201cThey are good leaders that never gave up and they will be missed. Ryan Black, Logan Uhlman, Ethan Poling, Caden Funk and Robby Ellenberger each brought something different to the team and onto the field that allowed us to finish 18-9.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foster was also quick to point out the sacrifice his family had made to allow him to take the job.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have to thank my wife, Julie, for agreeing to that crazy schedule that comes with this job.
