{"id":29844,"date":"2025-10-07T14:31:57","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T18:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=29844"},"modified":"2025-10-07T14:31:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T18:31:58","slug":"artisan-craft-markets-to-begin-saturday-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/07\/artisan-craft-markets-to-begin-saturday-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Artisan craft markets to begin Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Decatur Artisan Craft Market, which began 10 years ago, will be kicking off a new season Saturday at Riverside Center in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Markets are scheduled the second Saturday of each month through April, with the exception of January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All markets will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No admission is charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"521\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Artisan-market.jpg?resize=521%2C600&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29845\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Artisan-market.jpg?w=521&amp;ssl=1 521w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Artisan-market.jpg?resize=261%2C300&amp;ssl=1 261w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Market Manager Mary Montgomery said Saturday&#8217;s event wil have 105 tables full of homemade gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the market started in 2015, over 600 different vendors have participated, coming as far away as Bloomington in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany of our vendors are locals that live in and around Decatur. I am always amazed and impressed with the talent that is in our community,\u201d Montgomery said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Decatur Artisan Craft Market (DACM) was launched in 2015 by Cheri Sherry and Suzie Fuelling to raise money for community projects as part of the City of Decatur&#8217;s Stellar Communities grant application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have always felt strongly that Decatur should have a Splash pad and using the proceeds from the DACM would be a nice monetary push for the city in the right direction,\u201d Montgomery said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2021, the DACM has raised a total of $14,498.00 for a splash pad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2024-25 DACM raised $4,135.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ODD START: Montgomery had an inauspicious start as market manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She took over the operation in 2020, having been asked to do so by Cheri Sherry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the COVID pandemic hit and she had to cancel all the markets for that season!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUp until that time, I was a vendor selling my crafts at the market.\u201d she said. \u201cI have been going and working at craft shows since I was 10 years old.
