{"id":29765,"date":"2025-10-03T16:47:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T20:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=29765"},"modified":"2025-10-03T16:47:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T20:47:07","slug":"around-the-roundabout-all-is-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/03\/around-the-roundabout-all-is-well\/","title":{"rendered":"Around the roundabout: all is well"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s been more than a week since the Five Points Roundabout opened in Decatur and everything seems to be going quite well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With one week in, the roundabout has yet to see its first traffic accident reported to city police, according to the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First-responder services and school transportation officials are pleased with the setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EMS officials told Susan Sefton, community outreach director for the Adams Health Network (AHN), that they are confident the roundabout will pose no problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"296\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Roundabout-lights.jpg?resize=640%2C296&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Roundabout-lights.jpg?resize=1024%2C473&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Roundabout-lights.jpg?resize=300%2C139&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Roundabout-lights.jpg?resize=768%2C355&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Roundabout-lights.jpg?w=1065&amp;ssl=1 1065w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from Sefton, EMS Direct Kris Burkhart and senior leadership officials Chris Butler and Jen Helt said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdams County EMS and Adams Health Network are in full support of the new roundabout. We do not believe it poses a danger, and our crews are trained and fully prepared to navigate it safely during emergency responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe roundabout is designed to improve overall traffic flow and safety for the community, and we are confident it will not hinder our ability to provide timely emergency care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fire Chief Jeff Sheets has seen no issues with the traffic circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt this time, we have not had any problems with the roundabout,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>North Adams Schools officials also are pleased with the change at Five Points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe roundabout has been great for us,\u201d said Scott Miller, director of operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that there have been no issues with school busses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, Miller said, \u201cIt&#8217;s much easier for busses to move around that intersection.
