He had been with the department since March of 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board gave Gerber approval to begin the application process to find a new officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"164\" height=\"248\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/unnamed.jpg?resize=164%2C248&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29292\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Rumschlag<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the board&#8217;s previous meeting two weeks earlier, it was announced that Eric Mitchel was leaving the department. But Gerber said he already had added a replacement, Conrad Dyer, 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dyer had been a confinement officer at the Adams County Jail for four years, so he had passed all required tests, including PERF, and could join the department immediately upon his hiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He will, however, have to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at Plainfield in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When at full strength, the department has 20 officers, including Gerber and Deputy Chief Chris Brite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HIRING: Pre-applications for the post of patrolman may be obtained at the police department on Seventh St. or downloaded from the department&#8217;s official website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Completed pre-applications must be submitted to City Hall. Further instructions and requirements are provided on the pre-application form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pre-applications will be accepted until Friday, October 17, 2025 by 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The starting salary is $60,770, with vacation and officer wellness packages, an annual clothing allowance and a take-home vehicle provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, those interested may call the PD, (260) 724-8646.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Once again, the Decatur Police Department is shorthanded!
