{"id":29077,"date":"2025-09-11T14:52:01","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T18:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=29077"},"modified":"2025-09-11T14:52:03","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T18:52:03","slug":"delinquent-write-offs-fall-hackman-praised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/11\/delinquent-write-offs-fall-hackman-praised\/","title":{"rendered":"Delinquent write-offs fall; Hackman praised"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Delinquent write-offs by the City of Decatur continue to come down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Utilities Director Erin Heyerly brought the latest delinquent accounts, totaling $8,263.45, to the city&#8217;s board of works and safety at its recent meeting and gained approval to write them off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"464\" height=\"511\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Erin-Heyerly.jpg?resize=464%2C511&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29079\" style=\"width:253px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Erin-Heyerly.jpg?w=464&amp;ssl=1 464w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Erin-Heyerly.jpg?resize=272%2C300&amp;ssl=1 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 464px) 100vw, 464px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Heyerly<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The State Board of Accounts requires cities to write off accounts that, after five years, are considered noncollectable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year&#8217;s write-offs, by department: Water. $3,119.29; Sewer, $3,565.37; Trash, $844.46; Stormwater, $427,82; Fire Protection, $305.61.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year&#8217;s write-offs totaled $9,981.18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The numbers for 2023 were $15,179.16 while 2022&#8217;s amounted to nearly $21,000 \u2013 both obviously considerably higher than this year and last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HECKUVA JOB: Speaking of the State Board of Accounts, at the city council meeting the same night, Mayor Dan Rickord offered up high praise for the city&#8217;s new clerk-treasurer, Eran Hackman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to commend Eran,\u201d he said. \u201cShe&#8217;s learning on the fly, working with the state Board of Accounts and all.
