The Bellmont Braves came into Thursday’s NE8 opener with just one goal in three games and their inability to put the ball into the back of the net continued in a 2-0 loss at Columbia City. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Columbia City’s forwards played the angles right and got in behind the Bellmont back line twice in a matter of four minutes, with Jonah Shipman scoring twice. His goal in the 27th minute was set up perfectly with a run down the left side and he knocked it in again in the 30th minute for what was ultimately the final score of the contest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henry Faurote created a great chance and nearly scored in the 37th minute, curling one just over the bar. Carsten Hudson, who missed the game Wednesday, took a shot to the near post in the final minutes of the first half to make the Eagle keeper scramble, but the Braves were kept out of the net. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xavior Palacios, who drew his first start of the season in goal after an early injury, made an outstanding save in the 50th minute, getting a few fingertips on the ball to keep Nolan Fields out of goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves were certainly the better team in the final 15 minutes of the contest as Columbia City sat back and absorbed the visitors’ attack. Bellmont’s best opportunity of the game came when Jack Johnson pulled the ball back and shot from 35 yards out, banging it off the crossbar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont’s schedule continues next week with three straight home games in the middle of the week next week. The Braves will look to find their first win of the season in that stretch. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
