{"id":28521,"date":"2025-08-28T18:32:03","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T22:32:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=28521"},"modified":"2025-08-28T18:32:04","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T22:32:04","slug":"bluffton-others-approve-wheel-taxes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/28\/bluffton-others-approve-wheel-taxes\/","title":{"rendered":"Bluffton, others approve wheel taxes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a pending deadline date of Sept. 1 coming next week, wheel taxes were approved in a number of Indiana communities earlier this week, including Bluffton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to go into effect on January 1, these types of taxes must be approved by Sept. 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"493\" height=\"408\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Wheel-1-1.jpg?resize=493%2C408&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28522\" style=\"width:173px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Wheel-1-1.jpg?w=493&amp;ssl=1 493w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Wheel-1-1.jpg?resize=300%2C248&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 493px) 100vw, 493px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bluffton on Tuesday night passed a tax of $25 on all vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo one in this council wanted to do this today,\u201d Bluffton Councilman Josh Hunt told WANE 15. \u201cBut we know that we have to invest back into the City of Bluffton, and we know it is important to keep good streets for our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plymouth, Goshen and Evansville approved wheel taxes on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Plymouth and Goshen passed the maximum amount allowed by the state: $25 on small vehicles (passenger vehicles and motorcycles) and $40 on larger ones (Rvs, trucks).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evansville, meanwhile, okayed taxes of $30 on commercial vehicles, $20 on vehicles, and $10 on motorcycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, Decatur City Council approved a wheel tax of $30 and a vehicle excise tax of $20. Both were under the maximums of $40 and $25 allowed by the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord said at the time that the State of Indiana will be making available some $80 million to be distributed around the state next year for street\/road projects.
