{"id":284,"date":"2023-03-23T00:07:10","date_gmt":"2023-03-23T00:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=284"},"modified":"2023-04-03T23:47:05","modified_gmt":"2023-04-03T23:47:05","slug":"hamm-returning-to-decatur-pd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/03\/23\/hamm-returning-to-decatur-pd\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamm receives promotion in Decatur PD"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Decatur Police Department has a new detective and a new K-9 officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Decatur&#8217;s Board of Works and Safety meeting Tuesday night, new Police Chief Kevin Gerber said Corey Hamm was being recommended for promotion to the post of lieutenant detective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He fills a position vacated by Gerber, who recently stepped up to replace Leonard Corral Jr. as chief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerber said three officers were interviewed and \u201call did a phenomenal job, which made it a very tough decision.\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord and council members Craig Coshow and Tyler Fulenkamp \u2013 all of whom sat in on the interviews \u2013 readily agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board accepted Gerber&#8217;s recommendation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"212\" height=\"343\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Hamm.jpg?resize=212%2C343\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-285\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Hamm.jpg?w=212&amp;ssl=1 212w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Hamm.jpg?resize=185%2C300&amp;ssl=1 185w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Officer Corey Hamm will return to the Decatur Police Department after a decision by the Board of Works this week. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hamm joined the department in February of 2011 and graduated with honors from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. He has an associate\u2019s degree in criminal justice from Indiana University, and holds certificates in Advanced Roadside Impairment Detection and Enforcement, The Reid Technique of Interviewing and Interrogation, and is a certified breath test operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has been serving as one of the department&#8217;s two K-9 officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to joining the department, Hamm was a jail officer\/dispatcher with the Wells County Sheriff&#8217;s Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bradley J. Stoltz is the department&#8217;s other detective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On another matter, Gerber said the department&#8217;s newest K-9 officer, Gunner, had some safety and other issues \u201cand it just didn&#8217;t work out.\u201d So he was returned to where he came from and the department has a new dog, Fernier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arko, a K-9 the department had for several years, had to be retired due to physical ailments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Gerber said the department has a person brought on through the department&#8217;s recent \u201clateral\u201d campaign. The candidate has graduated from the police academy but still must pass the required PERF (Public Employees Retirement Fund) testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If he\/she passes, a formal announcement will be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one other matter of business, the oath of office taken by taken by former chief Corral to become a member of the department&#8217;s reserve force was made a matter of record.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA The Decatur Police Department has a new detective and a new K-9 officer.
