Two major projects are winding down in Decatur, including the much-discussed Five Points roundabout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The roundabout work \u201cis coming right along,\u201d city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its meeting Tuesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt’s definitely taking shape down there, for sure,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It now appears that the project could be finished by around mid-September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other major project \u2013 now in its 18th week \u2013 should be wrapped up even sooner \u2013 \u201cWe hope to get it done in the near future,\u201d Gilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That project, funded by a grant of $1,456,125 from the state’s Community Crossings fund, with a 25% match provided by the city, is providing nearly two miles of new sidewalks and approximately two miles of repaved streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sidewalk work and paving \u2013 in the north and northwest sections of the city \u2013 is competed and the contractor, DC Construction of Pendleton, is now doing pavement markings, Gilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
