The movement to convert a downtown Decatur alley into a fun area for people is \u201cpurring\u201d right along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decatur Main Street’s design committee is leading the project to convert the half-block of alley beside Sherwin Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The alley, which runs east and west, is already closed to traffic and the cat sculpture on its east end has led to the area being called \u201cthe cat alley.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two planters, 36 by 24 feet, have been ordered from The Grainery in downtown Decatur and will be placed in the alley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grainery got the order with a bid of $2,500.50. EA Planters, an online company, bid $2,443.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community Coordinator Jamie Gephart, a Main Street member, recently brought the bids to the city’s board of works and safety, which authorized the purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In upcoming weeks, benches, a balance beam, a tunnel, and more will be ordered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board of works unanimously voted to allow Main Street to use for the alley a total $12,000 funds left over in this year’s facade program, which funded all five projects requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
