Sunglasses at Night, a Fort Wayne band, makes its first appearance on the Madison St. Plaza stage Thursday night as the Decatur Chamber’s 2025 Summer Concert Series rolls down the homestretch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just two concerts of the 13 originally scheduled remain, this Thursday and an appearance by The Bulldogs the following Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week’s performance will start an hour earlier than has been the norm lately as the Sunglasses are scheduled to perform from 6 to 9 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another local talent, Lexi Lamons, 20, will also perform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather then kick off the show, Lexi will hit the stage around 7:30 when Sunglasses takes a break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As always, no admission will be charged. Food vendors and adult beverages by The Oasis Pub will be available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunglasses at Night says it plays ’80s rock and pop \u201calong with fun, danceable songs from all eras.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five men and one woman make up the band, with Justin Lee Whaley and Vickie Harter handling vocals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band performs frequently in the Fort Wayne and northwest Ohio areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSunglasses at Night” is a song by Canadian singer Corey Hart which was released on January 21, 1984, as the first single from his debut album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How the name came about is an odd tale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to co-producer Phil Chapman, the recording sessions for the album took place in a studio whose air conditioning\/heating vents were directly above the mixing console. Air from the vents blew directly into the faces of the control room personnel, so they often wore sunglasses protect their eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hart, working on a new song, began to improvise lyrics that included the line “I wear my sunglasses at night.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
