The high school tennis season got underway officially on Monday afternoon as the South Adams Starfires played county rival Bellmont and came back home with a 4-1 victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both teams got a chance to show off their new lineups and the Starfires did it by sweeping all three singles matches in straight sets, led by Kade Sprunger at No. 1. He beat Bellmont’s new No. 1, Larry Knous, 6-1, 6-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves avoided a sweep with a win by Kaden Ramsey and Kasey Teeter. Those two teamed up for the first time in a competitive match to give themselves a confidence boost going forward this season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The match was also a milestone for Bellmont as it marked the debut of their new head coach, Mason Vrablic, who takes over the program after several years as an assistant under Kyle Arnold, who left Bellmont this summer for a teaching job at Wayne High School. Vrablic is a former player in the Bellmont tennis program and has a solid rapport with the returning players. He was able to recruit freshmen Caleb Coats and Grayden Kable to the team to ensure that the Braves had a complete set of seven varsity players. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Starfires are right back in action tonight against Winchester in their home opener, while the Braves will travel to Bluffton on Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
