The Decatur Police Department is losing another officer, but Chief Kevin Gerber has someone ready to fill the vacancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerber told the city’s board of works and safety at its recent meeting that one of the department’s officers is expected to make a lateral move to the Indiana State Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officer is likely to stay with the local PD through the end of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chief said he has a candidate in mind to fill the vacancy, one who had his name in the fold the last time there was a new hire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board gave Gerber the okay to begin the usual hiring process for the applicant<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once hired, the new officer will have to pass the training required at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MONEY MATTERS: Gerber also informed the board that the department is now using the PayGov system, which will allow people to use a credit card instead of having to have cash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will be particularly helpful for golf cardcart and UTV registrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board also approved the chief’s request to increase the department’s petty cash fund from $200 to $400.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
