Baird, executive director of Adams Health Network, was a leader in the effort to build the new hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"167\" height=\"215\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/unnamed-61.jpg?resize=167%2C215&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27684\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Marvin Baird at 2005 hospital opening<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He also was instrumental in developing the long-term healthcare facilities of Adams Woodcrest and Adams Evergreen, both in Decatur, and Adams Heritage in Monroeville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marvin retired in February of 2011 and moved to Tennessee, where he died on May 16 of 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The original hospital was opened on July 30, 1923, near the intersection of High and Grant streets in Decatur.
