Adams Memorial Hospital will mark its 20-year anniversary with a special celebration ceremony Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hospital opened its doors to the public on July 5, 2005.
Wednesday’s event will begin at 2 p.m. at the hospital’s main entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Scott Smith, hospital CEO and medical director, and Russ Flueckiger, chairman of the hospital board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr. Jake Runyon of St. Marys Catholic Church in Decatur will offer a special blessing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dedication, which is, of course, open to the public, will also include the presentation of a commemorative video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light refreshments will be served in the hospital lobby after the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marvin L. Baird, executive director of Adams Health Network, was a leader in the effort to build the new hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also was instrumental in developing the long-term healthcare facilities of Adams Woodcrest and Adams Evergreen, both in Decatur, and Adams Heritage in Monroeville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marvin retired in February of 2011 and moved to Tennessee, where he died on May 16 of 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original hospital was opened on July 30, 1923, near the intersection of High and Grant streets in Decatur. On May 4 in 1920, voters had approved the construction of the hospital, the first in Adams County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
