Five Points work returning to high gear<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work on the Five Points roundabout (or traffic circle, if you prefer) in Decatur was recently slowed, but work on the project is expected to shift back into high gear this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work \u201cstalled just a little bit, but is about to pick up,\u201d city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its recent meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will be seeing a tremendous amount of work in the next couple of weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That includes the first asphalt work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project, being overseen by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and mostly funded by the federal government, began six weeks ago, on June 2.
E&B Paving of Muncie is the general contractor, having won the pact with a low bid of $2,493,109. Decatur’s match is 20% of the final cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the start, it was noted that the work could be completed by Labor Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ONE YEAR LATER: Last July 6 marked one year since the City of Decatur and INDOT officials signed all the necessary papers and made the project official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was noted by WZBD.com that the project had been in the works for some seven years up to that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
