{"id":27567,"date":"2025-07-14T13:57:41","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T17:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=27567"},"modified":"2025-07-14T13:57:42","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T17:57:42","slug":"224-traffic-lights-at-bellmont-see-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/14\/224-traffic-lights-at-bellmont-see-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"224 traffic lights at Bellmont see changes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and North Adams Schools officials, Decatur officials have brought about some changes in traffic lights at the US 224\/Jackson St. intersection at Bellmont High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The change, city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert said, was due to several traffic accidents and \u201cnear misses\u201d prior to school hours starting and at dismissal times in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leaving Bellmont, westbound drivers now will see a new left-turn arrow. A new left-turn arrow will also be seen by people coming to the intersection off Jackson St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"396\" height=\"314\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Bellmont-traffic-lights.jpg?resize=396%2C314&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27568\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Bellmont-traffic-lights.jpg?w=396&amp;ssl=1 396w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Bellmont-traffic-lights.jpg?resize=300%2C238&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 396px) 100vw, 396px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Gilbert said the city had applied for some HSIP (Hoosier Safety Improvement Program) funds in order to add a turn lane at the intersection, but the cost was too great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo we talked with INDOT about putting a turn arrow on the traffic signal to hold the other traffic and allow people to turn (north)east, hoping this will avoid future accidents,\u201d Gilbert explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey agreed, so we will see how effective it will be in August when schools starts back up.
