{"id":27501,"date":"2025-07-10T10:22:57","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T14:22:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=27501"},"modified":"2025-07-10T10:29:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T14:29:19","slug":"funding-seen-likely-for-major-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/10\/funding-seen-likely-for-major-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding seen likely for major project with mega price tag"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At its latest meeting, Decatur City Council, for the first time, discussed a project that could cost upwards of $21 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ouch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But before getting flustered, know that there currently is a 10-year time span to get it done; there is a great chance that funds for the work will be available from the state; and the project can be handled piece-meal over several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The federally-mandated Water Utility Improvements project&#8217;s primary purpose is to replace lead service lines and aging water mains. It came about, in part, within the last year or so due to the severe nature of the crisis in Flint, Michigan, several years back \u2013 a crisis which is still not totally rectified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A report on various aspects of such a project was outlined to Decatur City Council at its meeting Tuesday night by Ben Adams, engineer, and Chris Harrison, business development manager, both with Commonwealth Engineers, Inc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"408\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ben-Adams-Harrison.jpg?resize=640%2C408&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ben-Adams-Harrison.jpg?w=644&amp;ssl=1 644w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ben-Adams-Harrison.jpg?resize=300%2C191&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Chris Harrison (left) and Ben Adams<\/em> <em>speak to the Decatur City Council.
