{"id":27195,"date":"2025-06-20T11:58:31","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T15:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=27195"},"modified":"2025-06-20T11:58:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T15:58:33","slug":"pair-of-major-projects-in-decatur-progressing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/20\/pair-of-major-projects-in-decatur-progressing\/","title":{"rendered":"Pair of major projects in Decatur progressing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two major construction projects currently going on in Decatur are moving along according to schedule, city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its June 17 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The work to install a roundabout at the Five Points intersection began June 2 \u201cand is coming along nicely, progressing well,\u201d according to Gilbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Work-continues.jpg?resize=640%2C428&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Work-continues.jpg?resize=1024%2C684&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Work-continues.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Work-continues.jpg?resize=768%2C513&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Work-continues.jpg?w=1095&amp;ssl=1 1095w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Concrete and brick were being removed at that point and by roughly the end of June, Fleming Excavating will be cutting the area to grade. Then E&amp;B Paving of Muncie will put down stone and begin concrete work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Indiana Department Transportation (INDOT) is in charge of the project. E&amp;B Paving won the contract with a low bid of $2,493,109. Decatur&#8217;s match is 20% of the final cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is hoped that the project will be completed by Labor Day \u2026 or maybe sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other project, to provide roughly two miles of repaved streets and approximately two miles of new sidewalks in the northwest portion of the city is in its 13th week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is also going along quite well,\u201d Gilbert informed council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said in another two to two and a half weeks, all the sidewalk work should be finished.
