The two major construction projects currently going on in Decatur are moving along according to schedule, city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its June 17 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work to install a roundabout at the Five Points intersection began June 2 \u201cand is coming along nicely, progressing well,\u201d according to Gilbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concrete and brick were being removed at that point and by roughly the end of June, Fleming Excavating will be cutting the area to grade. Then E&B Paving of Muncie will put down stone and begin concrete work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indiana Department Transportation (INDOT) is in charge of the project. E&B Paving won the contract with a low bid of $2,493,109. Decatur’s match is 20% of the final cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is hoped that the project will be completed by Labor Day \u2026 or maybe sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other project, to provide roughly two miles of repaved streets and approximately two miles of new sidewalks in the northwest portion of the city is in its 13th week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is also going along quite well,\u201d Gilbert informed council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said in another two to two and a half weeks, all the sidewalk work should be finished. Then, DC Construction of Pendleton will switch to milling and repaving streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHopefully, by the end of August we will have this all buttoned up,\u201d Gilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sidewalk\/street project is funded by a grant of $1,456,125 from the state’s Community Crossings fund, with a 25% match by the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DC Construction’s bid was considerably lower than other bidders and the company not worked in Decatur before, but Gilbert told council he has been quite happy with the company’s work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
