{"id":26944,"date":"2025-06-04T09:20:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T13:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=26944"},"modified":"2025-06-04T09:20:20","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T13:20:20","slug":"significant-savings-seen-in-insurance-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/04\/significant-savings-seen-in-insurance-change\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cSignificant savings\u201d seen in insurance change"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decatur officials have decided to make a health insurance coverage change in August which will provide \u201csignificant savings\u201d to the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City council unanimously voted at its Tuesday meeting to go with United Healthcare Medical Trust, joining over 70 other Indiana communities who have already made the switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a pretty significant savings,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"582\" height=\"484\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Decatur-City-Hall.jpg?resize=582%2C484&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26945\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Decatur-City-Hall.jpg?w=582&amp;ssl=1 582w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Decatur-City-Hall.jpg?resize=300%2C249&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 582px) 100vw, 582px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes, the cost savings is pretty significant,\u201d added City Attorney Anne Razo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The change will be made August 1, when the current contracted insurance coverage concludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent increases in coverage have been near double digits and last year&#8217;s was, according to the mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rickord and Clerk-Treasurer Eran Hackman have had meetings with officials of the insurance program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, it was noted, Deputy Clerk Treasurer Wendi Gephart contacted some of the 72 Indiana communities in this area that are already a part of the health coverage plan, \u201cand all gave it glowing marks,\u201d Hackman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think it&#8217;s a good thing to do,\u201d said council member Jenny Bower-Shultz, who then moved to make the switch.
