The New Haven boys\u2019 track team made history in the NE8 Track and Field Meet at Columbia City Friday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bulldogs racked up 145 points to win the school\u2019s first conference track title in more than 40 years. They easily outdistanced runner-up Columbia City (118 pts.). Norwell was third with 90 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kevion Mitchell led the way with 30.5 points by winning the long jump and 100 hurdles, placing second in the 300 hurdles, and running a leg on the Bulldogs\u2019 winning 4X400 relay. Brian Garcia, who won the 800 meters, racked up 28 points in four distance events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bellmont Braves finished eighth with 20 points but recorded several personal best performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman Nehemiah Richmond cut more than a second from his previous best in the 400 meters to post a 54.05, good for eighth. \u201cIt felt really great,\u201d said Richmond. \u201cIt was very unexpected. I was just expecting to get, maybe, a 54.9, but I did a lot better than I thought I would, and I\u2019m happy with it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veteran thrower Alex Schirack threw 44-1.75 to place fifth in the shot put. \u201cI\u2019ve been watching a lot of videos to help with the form, and Tony (throws coach Tony Ordway) has been helping me fine-tune that,\u201d said Schirack, explaining how he has added almost four feet to his throw since the early season. Schirack also threw well in the discus at 130-6, placing ninth, one spot short of scoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 800 meters, Harry Gunsett cut two seconds from his season best, running 2:02.39 for fifth place. He is closing in on his career best of 2:00, which he ran in last year\u2019s sectional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jackson Hicks took sixth in the long jump at 20-3, and Maddux Miller finished seventh in the 1600 in 4:45.23, less than two seconds from his career best. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves\u2019 4X100 relay (Parker Frietas, Will Kintz, Mason White, Chris Richmond) finished sixth in 47.34. The 4X400 relay (Harry Gunsett, Will Kintz, Xavior Palacios, Maddux Miller) placed seventh in 3:43.00. The 4X800 relay team of Kaden Ramsey, Landon Rich, Owen Garcia, and Joe Koslowski finished eighth in 9:46.1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sophomore Logan Whitacre placed just out of the money in 11th<\/sup> in the 3200 meters, but his time of 11:11 was an eight-second career best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont’s Chris Richmond ran a PR in the 100 prelims, finishing in 12.64.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nolan Miller of Leo bettered his NE8 record from last year’s meet by .6 seconds in the 400.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harry Gunsett of Bellmont set a season-best mark and was in the points in fifth in 2:02.39. His freshman teammate, Landon Sielschott, cut a big chunk of his time in the race, as well, running a PR of 2:17.49.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
