Bellmont played in front of a big crowd on the beautiful diamond at Homestead and held their own against the biggest school around, but a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the fifth gave the Spartans an 8-1 victory and handed the Braves their third loss in a row. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves stranded runners in the first two innings, but finally got on the board in the third, tying the game at 1-1 when Mason Martinez scored after leading off the inning with a hit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That handed starter Aiden Zimmerman a fresh start and he sat down the home team in order in the third, recording two of his three strikeouts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homestead resorted to small ball in the fourth to break the game back in their favor, pushing runs across with a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt to challenge the BHS defense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont could not find a way to score Martinez, who picked up another hit in his next at-bat, in response and the Spartans put the game away in the bottom of the fifth. A pair of walks and a hit batsmen prompted a move to the bullpen, but Matt Bleeke struggled to find the strike zone and Homestead exited the inning and headed to the sixth with a 7-1 lead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with Martinez’s two hits, the Braves also had singles from Will Baker and Beau Baker in the contest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves’ next game will be at home Monday against Blackhawk Christian. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
