{"id":25011,"date":"2025-04-03T14:42:40","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T18:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=25011"},"modified":"2025-04-03T14:42:42","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T18:42:42","slug":"roundabout-work-may-start-in-early-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/03\/roundabout-work-may-start-in-early-june\/","title":{"rendered":"Roundabout work may start in early June"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gas station\/convenience store is gone, some of the street work has been done, the environmental study has come up clean, and so now it&#8217;s on to building the roundabout at Five Points in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert said at Tuesday night&#8217;s city council meeting in City Hall that the project is \u201con schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tentatively, the work will begin the first week of June, according to Gilbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"398\" height=\"145\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/unnamed-42.jpg?resize=398%2C145&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25012\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/unnamed-42.jpg?w=398&amp;ssl=1 398w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/unnamed-42.jpg?resize=300%2C109&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sewer work will be done at the start, then after 2-3 weeks, the project will turn to concrete work. If all goes as projected, the project should be completed, at the latest, by the end of September, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Indiana Department Transportation (INDOT) is in charge of the project which will close the intersection for 2-3 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The contract was awarded by INDOT to E&amp;B Paving, a Muncie firm which had the low bid of $2,493,109. Decatur&#8217;s match is 20% of the final cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Decatur council recently approved the expenditure of $58,000 for excavation, sewer and sidewalk work, etc.,to be done in the area near the roundabout.
