Potholes are plentiful and&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Decatur&#8217;s street sweeper is awakening from a long winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council Tuesday night that \u201cpotholes are popping up by the minute\u201d and the street department is filling them as fast as they are found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"479\" height=\"335\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Outlook-oz4svr0m.jpg?resize=479%2C335&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24669\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Outlook-oz4svr0m.jpg?w=479&amp;ssl=1 479w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Outlook-oz4svr0m.jpg?resize=300%2C210&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 479px) 100vw, 479px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Laying new asphalt, covering the pit, hole in asphalt with very bad quality road<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To report a pothole, call 724-3356, Gilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the city&#8217;s street sweeper \u201chas made its debut and will be out every day\u201d for the time being, according to Gilbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is a lot of dirt out there; a lot of &#8216;winter&#8217;,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SEAL THE DEAL: The board of works accepted a proposal from Pavement Solutions for this year&#8217;s crack sealing program for city streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city will pay 44 cents per square yard for some 113,00 square yards of sealing, just over $50,000 total, according to Gilbert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That 44-cent quote has continued since 2016! With Decatur, Berne and Geneva going together, volume pricing is gained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou don&#8217;t see that very often,\u201d Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord said, referring to a jprice quote being the same since 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BID BUNCH: Bids for street materials were opened, then turned over to Gilbert for review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were five bidders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Sure signs spring is just around the ol&#8217; corner: 1.
