{"id":24535,"date":"2025-03-03T09:32:15","date_gmt":"2025-03-03T14:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=24535"},"modified":"2025-03-03T09:32:16","modified_gmt":"2025-03-03T14:32:16","slug":"fred-kunkel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/03\/fred-kunkel\/","title":{"rendered":"Fred Kunkel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fred William Kunkel, 42, of Decatur, Indiana, died unexpectedly while on business in Lansing, Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was born December 24, 1982, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Fred J. and Denise (Gardner) Kunkel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 11, 2014, in Auburn he married Rebecca Lynn \u201cBecci\u201d Young.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Kunkel was a field representative for Dairy Farmers of America based in Medina, Ohio. Fred\u2019s knowledge in this area was a valuable asset as he grew up on the farm and formerly was a dairy farmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fred absolutely loved farming, driving the tractor, and being outdoors. He was an avid collector of Legos and even still has that first set he received as a small boy. Fred enjoyed going to Florida and walking on the beach. However, his greatest love was his family, especially his boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surviving are his wife, Becci Kunkel of Decatur; three sons, Fred, Henry, and Noah, all at home; his parents, Fred and Denise Kunkel of Decatur; two sisters, Margaret (Adam) Holley of Westminster, Colorado, and Hannah Kunkel of Decatur; paternal grandmother, Ruth E. Kunkel of Decatur, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Pam Young of Fort Wayne; and four brothers-in-law, Andy (Jeni) Young of Fort Wayne, Josh (Chrissy) Young of Fort Wayne, Tim (Joy) Young of Wabash; and Joe (Whitney) Young of Huntington; and many nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Fred Kunkel; and maternal grandparents, William and Kay Gardner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitation will be Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 1010 West Monroe Street, Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funeral services will be Friday, March 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Zach Oedewaldt officiating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Burial will follow at the Decatur Cemetery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pallbearers are Adam Holley, Andy Young, Josh Young, Tim Young, Joe, Young, and Jesse Kelley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Memorials may be directed to the family.
