A City of Decatur program to upgrade three pedestrian crossings in the area of the North Adams Schools campus has taken a step forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beth Johnson, a representative of USI Consultants of Indianapolis, informed the city’s board of works and safety at its recent meeting that a preliminary engineering agreement for the project has been formally approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson has been working with city Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert on putting the project together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A grant of $460,000 has been awarded by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), with the city to add a 10% match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crossings are on E. Monroe St., connecting Stratton Addition and Ogg St.; on Piqua Rd. at Eastbrook Drive, connecting a housing addition and other homes to Bellmont Middle School; and on Jackson St. at Monroe St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some improvements have already been made by the city, but the grant will provide major upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is still coming together and may not begin before 2027, Gilbert said at an earlier meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will do everything we can get it done as soon as possible,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord said at that meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a very worthwhile project,\u201d Gilbert added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
