{"id":24367,"date":"2025-02-24T14:22:34","date_gmt":"2025-02-24T19:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=24367"},"modified":"2025-02-24T14:22:36","modified_gmt":"2025-02-24T19:22:36","slug":"hoosier-pattern-tax-abatements-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/24\/hoosier-pattern-tax-abatements-approved\/","title":{"rendered":"Hoosier Pattern tax abatements approved"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo when did you start?\u201d Councilman Mat Dyer asked Keith Gerber, owner-operator of Hoosier Pattern during a recent city council meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn 1997,\u201d Gerber replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow many employees were there?\u201d Dyer followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThree \u2026 the three owners,\u201d Gerber replied, with a smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDid you ever envision this kind of growth?\u201d Dyer continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d Gerber said, again smiling. \u201cI&#8217;ve had a good group.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That exchange, highlighting the remarkable growth of one of Decatur&#8217;s leading businesses, came after council had approved a pair of tax abatements for Hoosier Pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerber, now the sole owner of the company, began in a 3,500-square-foot building and today operates in a facility of 90,000 square feet on N,. 10th St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And those three employee-owners have grown to 57 full-time employees, with the expectations of soon adding five more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"548\" height=\"218\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Hoosier-Pattern-sign.jpg?resize=548%2C218&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Hoosier-Pattern-sign.jpg?w=548&amp;ssl=1 548w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Hoosier-Pattern-sign.jpg?resize=300%2C119&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At a previous meeting, Gerber explained how he had spent $1.7 million for a pair of new sand printers, boosting the company&#8217;s total numbers to seven, the first having been added in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said, too, that he thought the new additions would help land the business of \u201can aerospace customer.\u201d<br>Sand printers have certainly played a major role in the growth of Hoosier Pattern.
