Bellmont coach Peyton Selking delivered a simple message to his team Saturday in a 105-79 loss to Bishop Luers in high school boys basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scoreboard had very little to do with the post-game discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moments after cutting the lead to four points, the Knights (16-5) scored six points in 21 seconds in the second quarter to go up by 10, 27-17, with 7:06 to play in the half. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Knights came with too many weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By his measurement, Coach Selking was pleased. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur guys played great,\u201d Selking said. \u201cWe handled the pressure well for the most part\u2014other than a little run in the first half that hurt us. I thought we did a good job against their length and their quickness. \u201cThey played hard the entire time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their 79 points were the highest of the season, surpassing their previous best of 60 points, which they had achieved three times against East Noble, DeKalb, and South Adams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luers, the eighth-ranked team in Class 2A, used the game as preparation for the postseason. Danny Kelly scored 18 points, Drelyn Truesdale contributed 17 points, Carmani Davis added 14 points, and Dereon Truesdale and Zach Calderon each scored 12 points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Knights didn’t lack any offensive punch, with three more players scoring eight or more points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selking emphasized the hard work and dedication of his team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGavin shot it well; Daniel shot it well. We finished well around the rim and got to the free-throw line. We wanted to make them shoot from outside and not give them anything going downhill or in transition. And I thought we did that, but credit to them\u2014they hit shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman Daniel Selking poured in 31 points, including nine three-pointers, to lead all scorers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach Selking noted, \u201cI was just pleased with how he handled the pressure tonight and took care of the basketball. He made a couple of freshman mistakes, but that\u2019s going to happen against a team like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gavin Krull added 25 points, including 6-of-10 free-throw shooting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s grown into new responsibilities as a senior scorer.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe shoots at a high level. \u201cHe\u2019s getting comfortable in his new role, getting downhill and getting to the free-throw line, getting to the rim,\u201d Selking noted. \u201cHe\u2019s developed so much. I’m really proud of the kid and very happy to have him on our team.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
