{"id":2428,"date":"2023-05-17T08:37:34","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T12:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=2428"},"modified":"2023-05-17T09:08:00","modified_gmt":"2023-05-17T13:08:00","slug":"decatur-council-anxious-to-move-forward-with-lake-shores-annexation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/17\/decatur-council-anxious-to-move-forward-with-lake-shores-annexation\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur Council anxious to move forward with Lake Shores annexation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEverything about this project makes sense for our community,\u201d City Attorney Anne Razo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of people want to build houses \u2013 and that&#8217;s good for our city,\u201d noted city council member Matt Dyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were referring to the requested annexation of land adjacent to Lake Shores subdivision on the east side of Decatur \u2013 and council is anxious to move forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This would be a voluntary annexation, which means it is requested. Due to new state laws passed in recent years, it has become much more difficult for a city to make a forced annexation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A petition requesting the annexation says the area involved would add approximately 24.025 acres to Lake Shores. The area involved lies south of Monroe St. Extended, north of CR 550N, in an easterly direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fiscal plan calls for 65 lots to be developed over several years by Miller Land Surveying of Monroe \u2013 and those lots are already spoken for, according to Dyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Razo said the fiscal plans primarily shows \u201cstress\u201d on the city \u2013 sewer and water lines, etc. \u2013 and also points out revenue sources and benefits to the city.
