{"id":24253,"date":"2025-02-19T09:18:06","date_gmt":"2025-02-19T14:18:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=24253"},"modified":"2025-02-19T09:24:39","modified_gmt":"2025-02-19T14:24:39","slug":"browns-surge-delivers-senior-teammates-memorable-win-over-legends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/19\/browns-surge-delivers-senior-teammates-memorable-win-over-legends\/","title":{"rendered":"Brown&#8217;s surge delivers senior teammates memorable win over Legends"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>RANDY HISNER<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Heritage seniors did their part Tuesday on Senior Night, but it was junior Taurean Brown who played the most vital role in helping the Patriots overcome an 11-point deficit late in the third quarter and eventually beat the North Side Legends, 58-54.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brown, who led the Patriots (12-8) with 21 points (14 in the second half), scored six straight points in 75 seconds late in the third quarter after the Legends (9-12) had started the half with a 16-5 rally to go up 44-33 with 2:57 to go. Next came a falling-down bank shot from five feet with&nbsp;1:40&nbsp;left. Just 28 seconds later he sank a 10-foot floater in the lane, and suddenly the Patriots were back in the game at 44-39.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a clutch block by senior Braden Walter, sophomore Lucas Taylor capped the eight-point run with a fast break layup to make it 44-41 heading into the final period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"apiland.net\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/API_Small.bmp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18308\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Heritage coach Kyle Sovine was thrilled with how his team fought back after the North Side barrage to start the third quarter. \u201cWe talk about it virtually every day of practice,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2018How are you going to respond?\u2019 I thought we did a good job, you know.&nbsp;&nbsp;We kind of refocused; everyone started playing defense and holding each other accountable. Brown traded baskets with the Legends\u2019 Conner Siratei and Sebastian Moore to keep the lead at two, 50-48. Now it was 57-52 with 2:45 left, and the Patriots were able to run time off the clock while holding the Legends to a single bucket the rest of the way. (Photo by Randy Hisner)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Though North Side jumped out to 5-0 and 7-2 leads at the start of the game, the Patriots kept it close and then took the lead at 13-11 when Lybarger hit two three-pointers from the same spot on the right wing in less than 20 seconds. The rest of the half was back and forth, with five lead changes and three ties. He had 18 points, including seven in the fourth quarter. \u201cWe know he\u2019s going to get doubled and face-guarded,\u201d Sovine said, \u201cbut he fights through that by being tough and figuring out a way to score the ball.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though it was a nonconference game, Sovine thinks the win over a much bigger school was an important one. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to beef the schedule up to get us ready for sectional,\u201d the second-year coach said. \u201cI think it\u2019s good to play these big 4A schools.
