{"id":2242,"date":"2023-05-13T07:40:17","date_gmt":"2023-05-13T11:40:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=2242"},"modified":"2023-05-17T09:11:25","modified_gmt":"2023-05-17T13:11:25","slug":"friday-storms-put-spring-planting-on-hold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/13\/friday-storms-put-spring-planting-on-hold\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday storms put spring planting on hold"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As farmers across Z-Land attempt to set out their planting schedule for soybeans and corn, Friday&#8217;s rain put a hold on the action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana reported .23 inches in Berne, but Decatur recorded slightly higher totals as the ground received a good soaking with .35 inches of rainfall late in the evening as a line of storms slowly rolled through from the south. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rain should prove to only be a slight reprieve from activity in the fields with only a slight chance of rain in the forecast over the next five days and temperatures forecast in the 70s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to USDA reports, just under 40% of the soybeans in Indiana are in the ground. That is much higher than last year, when poor weather had Indiana behind schedule at just 15%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For corn, Indiana farmers are also ahead of schedule, with 40% of the crop planted in the Hoosier State.
