Laney Trausch and Ana Lehman teamed up to nearly outscore Muncie Burris themselves, combining for 33 points Monday night in the Starfires’ 47-35 victory over Muncie Burris. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lehman scored 17, while Trausch had 16, built a big lead early with defense and then closed out the game at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Trausch left the game in the second half and the Stars saw out the rest of the game without her, and, at one point, with five freshmen on the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We had a strong first half tonight,” admitted head coach Brett Freeman. “We did a nice job with our pressure in the full court and the half court. We were able to get out in transition and get some easy buckets.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Adams led at the half 29-13, holding the Owls to single digits in the first two quarters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burris fought back for a time in the third quarter, trimming the lead all the way to 32-29 before the Stars pulled away again in the fourth quarter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The third quarter was not a good quarter for us,” noted Freeman. “We were turning it over, forcing some shots and giving up too many easy baskets.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freeman pointed out that the Starfires were out-rebounded in the third quarter, with the Owls hitting the boards hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our effort level just was not where it should be,” said Freeman. “After Laney went out in the second half, we had some people step up and make some big plays down the stretch.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Stars got seven points from Lucy Schwartz and four from Charlee Bollenbacher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The JV game was won by South Adams 12-4 in two quarters of play. Lucy Schwartz led the team with four points and eight rebounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Adams will be right back in action Tuesday night against South Side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
