{"id":22291,"date":"2024-12-10T13:44:49","date_gmt":"2024-12-10T18:44:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=22291"},"modified":"2024-12-10T13:44:50","modified_gmt":"2024-12-10T18:44:50","slug":"police-pick-heading-for-medical-exam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/10\/police-pick-heading-for-medical-exam\/","title":{"rendered":"Police pick heading for medical exam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of Decatur is moving toward the hiring of a new police officer, with Chief Kevin Gerber having told the city&#8217;s board of works that he knows who his choice will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerber said that following interviews, he was down to two candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"262\" height=\"304\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/unnamed-33.jpg?resize=262%2C304&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/unnamed-33.jpg?w=262&amp;ssl=1 262w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/unnamed-33.jpg?resize=259%2C300&amp;ssl=1 259w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From an original field of several applicants, the field was trimmed to four, all of whom gained interviews. \u201cAll four were very impressive, I thought,\u201d the chief told the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Dan Rickord agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerber asked that both candidates be sent for the next step, a medical exam and a polygraph administered by the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerber reasoned that with two having passed those steps, one would be named to fill the department&#8217;s open position and the other would be ready to go if another vacancy cropped up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The medical exam, however, costs $1,600 and, as Mayor Rickord pointed out, is only good for six months.
