For the second consecutive season, Noah Volcan set off a a flurry of several thousand stuffed animals being tossed onto the ice at the Memorial Coliseum Saturday night as the Fort Wayne Komets held their 11h annual Teddy Bear Toss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The traditional event has become a staple with many hockey teams throughout the U.S. and Canada. Fans bring new and gently-used stuffed animals to the game and when the home team scores its first goal, the animals are thrown onto the ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Komets announced that they collected 3,002 of the \u201cstuffies\u201d Saturday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With players helping, the stuffed animals were pulled together by volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the Komets are donating them to Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army and Lutheran Children’s Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volcan set off the flurry of teddy bears and others when he scored 7:05 into the game, witnessed by 7,616. Ironically, it was Volcan, whose goal just 48 seconds into the December 2023 game set off the teddy toss that night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only negative of the night was Fort Wayne’s 3-2 loss to Kalamazoo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
