The Braves were the only team to survive the first day with a 5-0 record as LaPorte and SB Riley each suffered a defeat. That sets up the team to take control of the team race if they can get past Riley in the opening round. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round 1 vs. SB Riley<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves took their lumps against Riley, but also dished out some strength of their own. Senior captain Trayvon Fleming took out freshman Austin Manley, but the Braves took care of business through the rest of the upper weights, outside of a loss at 175. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heading back down to the lightweights, Bellmont led 36-11, but Riley’s experience made the match much closer. Jacob Binegar was leading when he tried to roll through for nearfall and was caught and pinned, then Jacob Bleeke dropped a tough decision at 113. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben Mills scored a key fall for the Braves to clinch the match, but the team lost the next two, with Jayden Fleming, a regional qualifier last year, taking out Landon Sielschott at 126. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best bout of the weekend so far did not go the Braves way when Braxton Shines, a junior for Riley with 20 wins and qualifying for regional last year, won a back-and-forth bout over Gabe Myers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves faced a weak Glenn team compared to what they have seen in the past from the Falcons and accepted six forfeits on their way to a 69-10 victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henry Faurote whitewashed Walter Drews, a wrestler with 100+ career victories for Glenn, in an 18-0 tech fall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves took on a shorthanded Wayne team with just seven wrestlers and won 82-0. Henry Faurote equaled Gavin Davis’s mark from earlier in the day with a 58-second tech fall to finish off the win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highlight for the Braves was a win on his varsity debut for junior Doug Hamilton at 215 pounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
