It was awesome,\u201d Police Chief Kevin Gerber told city council at a recent meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"526\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Career-Day-chief.jpg?resize=526%2C608&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21828\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Career-Day-chief.jpg?w=526&amp;ssl=1 526w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Career-Day-chief.jpg?resize=260%2C300&amp;ssl=1 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Police\u00a0 Chief Kevin Gerber converses with students<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheets, who was unable to attend the council meeting, later told WZBD.com, \u201cWe had a good number of students visit us. Many had questions about our work schedule, pay, and how old you need to be to join the fire service.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord offered praise for BHS. \u201cKudos to the school. There were some really good questions asked. such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What inspired you to be an officer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;How do you handle the fear of a scary situation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If you could redo things, would you still choose law enforcement?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnytime we get to interact with the youth of our community like this, it is a great opportunity for both of us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SPECIAL CLASS: While pleased with the turnout at Career Day, Fire Chief Sheets said his department&#8217;s \u201cmain focus was the Area 18 Fire Rescue Class held at South Adams. This class is normally for juniors and seniors who want to enter emergency services (Fire and EMS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a two-year program that gives students the certifications needed to be a firefighter in the State of Indiana. It also will certify them as an EMR (Emergency Medical Responder), the lowest medical certification in the State of Indiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCurrently, the class has students from Adams, Wells, and Jay counties.
