Leaf collection is off to a good start in Decatur, Operations Manage Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its recent meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pickups will run until approximately Dec. 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gilbert also said city crews will still take away some yard waste \u201calthough it will be sporadic.\u201d The yard waste should be kept obviously separate from leaves.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the leaf collection, residents are asked to rake all leaves to curbside for pickup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no set schedule for pickups like there is for trash and recycling as weather can be a factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PARADE CLEANUP: Another recent chore for city employees went well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gilbert told WZBD.com that the downtown cleanup after the Oct.28 Callithumpian Parade took approximately an hour and a half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some six city workers got right to it as the large crowd was on its way home. \u201cWe get in there shortly after the parade,\u201d Gilbert noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaf blowers are used to move debris from the sidewalk to the street; from there it is picked up as the street sweeper comes along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the next morning, it’s difficult to realize a big parade and a big crowd had been downtown a few hours earlier.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
