The renovation eventually will lead to it becoming an office for the Adams County Economic Development Corp. (ACEDC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Limberlost Construction of Geneva is in charge of the renovation, via its bid of $504,721.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s going pretty well; they&#8217;re ahead of schedule,\u201d Building\/Zoning Director Curt Witte informed city council at its latest meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"504\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Faurote-bldg.-night.jpg?resize=640%2C504&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21444\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Faurote-bldg.-night.jpg?resize=1024%2C806&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Faurote-bldg.-night.jpg?resize=300%2C236&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Faurote-bldg.-night.jpg?resize=768%2C604&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Faurote-bldg.-night.jpg?resize=1536%2C1208&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Faurote-bldg.-night.jpg?w=1613&amp;ssl=1 1613w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Faurote-bldg.-night.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey spent the last week and a half demoing the interior of the building,\u201d Witte told WZBD.com. \u201cThey removed all the interior walls and lath boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNext week (Nov. 11-15) they are moving to the front exterior of the building to re-frame windows and doors and try and seal it up a bit for a new front facade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That will require a portion of the sidewalk in front of the structure to be closed to the public for a week or so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city owns the building and has signed a lease agreement with the ACEDC, which will eventually take possession of the two-story structure and lease a small portion in the rear to the city, which plans to use it for much-needed storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A state READI grant of $290,000 was obtained by the city to use for renovation of the building and the ACEDC, through its own funds and some private donations, will add pick up the tab for the rest of the cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ACEDC also agreed this week to cover a $2,925 change order for the enlargement of a door area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the city took possession of the dilapidated building from city resident Paul Faurote in early 2022, it hired Limberlost Construction, at a cost of $153,350, to secure the then-unsafe structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ACEDC office is currently located in the Adams County Service Complex at Third and Jefferson streets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Work is underway to renovate the Faurote building in downtown Decatur.
