No more having to avoid a street being paved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest major street-paving project in Decatur was completed mid-week, a bit later than expected due to some unexpected rain. But it has brought some smooth streets with bright markings to the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work on resurfacing and striping the Riverside Center parking lot was the last major step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"475\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Lining-parking-lot.jpg?resize=640%2C475&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Lining-parking-lot.jpg?w=990&amp;ssl=1 990w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Lining-parking-lot.jpg?resize=300%2C222&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Lining-parking-lot.jpg?resize=768%2C569&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The work began Sept. 17 and the city-owned parking lot behind Two Brothers was redone that first day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTwo large projects are finishing up and it&#8217;s good,\u201d Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council earlier in the week, apparently referring to the Winchester\/13th streets redevelopment commission pedestrian upgrade\/signal project .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brooks Construction of Fort Wayne did the resurfacing work, the majority of which was funded by a state Community Crossings grant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant amounted to $810,508.10 and the city provided a match of some $253,300 (which was budgeted), boosting total funds available for the work to over $1 million: $1,013,135.12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the city is preparing its application for another CC grant for next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com No more rugged, milled streets.
