{"id":19628,"date":"2024-09-13T15:07:33","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T19:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=19628"},"modified":"2024-09-13T15:07:51","modified_gmt":"2024-09-13T19:07:51","slug":"building-classifications-eyed-by-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/13\/building-classifications-eyed-by-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Building classifications eyed by city"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking to avoid causing anger in business owners and costly changes required of them, Decatur Building\/Zoning Superintendent Curt Witte brought a key problem before the city&#8217;s board of works and safety at its latest meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Witte explained that all commercial buildings in the city are classified according to how they are used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On some occasions, however, an annual fire inspection of the building will discover that it has changed ownership and is a different type of business and so it needs to be reclassified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That classification change could require expensive alterations be made to the building \u2013 and angry owners who did not know of the requirement when they purchased the business and made the changeover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"476\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/3B153FCF3C754532893E2A2DDAB430AC.jpg?resize=476%2C384&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19629\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/3B153FCF3C754532893E2A2DDAB430AC.jpg?w=476&amp;ssl=1 476w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/3B153FCF3C754532893E2A2DDAB430AC.jpg?resize=300%2C242&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 476px) 100vw, 476px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Curt Witte (left) &amp; Jeff Sheets<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Witte would like to put a business classification form on the city&#8217;s code books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe just want the information,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Dan Rickord agreed that the information is needed, especially for the fire department.
