{"id":19385,"date":"2024-09-07T15:07:57","date_gmt":"2024-09-07T19:07:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=19385"},"modified":"2024-09-07T15:07:57","modified_gmt":"2024-09-07T19:07:57","slug":"decatur-pd-short-handed-once-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/07\/decatur-pd-short-handed-once-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur PD short-handed once again"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Decatur Police Department is short-handed once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistant Police Chief Chris Brite told the board of works and safety at its meeting Tuesday night that patrolman Jagg Nunez has resigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brite said the Winchester native, who had come to the Decatur PD from the Portland PD, had resigned previously, then returned to the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nunez joined the department in Decatur in February of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resignation came up as Brite asked for and received permission to begin the process of hiring a new officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt will take us several months to get this going,\u201d Brite commented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"416\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/A59F7B8D851246519568B4A2E5AC4471.jpg?resize=416%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/A59F7B8D851246519568B4A2E5AC4471.jpg?w=416&amp;ssl=1 416w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/A59F7B8D851246519568B4A2E5AC4471.jpg?resize=260%2C300&amp;ssl=1 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 416px) 100vw, 416px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Deputy Chief Chris Brite addresses board<\/em>. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At full strength, the Decatur police force consists of 20 officers: Chief Kevin Gerber, Brite, with three sergeants, two detectives and 13 patrolmen, one of whom is a school resource officer when school is in session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, though, the department is down to 19 and will be for some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ARPA OKAY: City council approved Brite&#8217;s request to use $2,792.60 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to hire Lexipol to put together all the department&#8217;s SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe (Adams) county did this two years ago and they love it,\u201d Brite said. Among others employing the service are Wells County, Fort Wayne PD, and several others, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Already in the budget for next year is $11,100 to continue the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCreated in 2003 by two attorneys (and former law enforcement officers), Lexipol was born from a vision of a better, safer way to run a public safety agency,\u201d the company says on its website. \u201cToday, we serve more than 2 million public safety and government professionals with a range of informational and technological solutions&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com The Decatur Police Department is short-handed once again.
