All the track is long gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The handover has been in the works for a couple of years, involving Adams County Attorney Mark Burry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the city&#8217;s operations manager, Jeremy Gilbert, said that as far back as five years ago the city had looked at the bigger parcel as the site for part of a possible trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted too, that the 4.85 acres could become helpful in reducing some flooding at the public works site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt would make sense to obtain it; it would give us something for the future,\u201d Gilbert remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The land offer has one major hang-up \u2013 and it&#8217;s a big one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, Schirmeyer residents and surely others have dumped just about everything imaginable on the railroad property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt would take a lot of work, a lot of work, to clean up the area if we wanted to use it for a trail,\u201d Gilbert said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"176\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/4ACA6EE62DEB4C07B9AA35FF0F7330BC.jpg?resize=640%2C176&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/4ACA6EE62DEB4C07B9AA35FF0F7330BC.jpg?w=874&amp;ssl=1 874w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/4ACA6EE62DEB4C07B9AA35FF0F7330BC.jpg?resize=300%2C82&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/4ACA6EE62DEB4C07B9AA35FF0F7330BC.jpg?resize=768%2C211&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Some of the junk piled on land being given to Decatur<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After some more discussion, the board gave its okay to the acceptance.
