Democratic Party officials say a near-capacity crowd is expected next Tuesday, Sept. 10, as Indiana gubernatorial candidate Dr. Jennifer McCormick and other Democratic candidates for statewide office will address the party faithful during a banquet scheduled at the Knights of Columbus hall, 1703 High St., Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening will include a cash bar and a silent auction. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. and dinner will be at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCormick, a native of New Castle whose family has strong roots in southern Adams County, is the former Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Widely viewed as a friend of Indiana\u2019s teachers, McCormick last week unveiled her \u201ccommon sense\u201d education platform that focuses on school accountability, teacher salary boosts and academic freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCormick said her platform largely intends to create more flexibility for K-12 administrators and educators to craft curriculum, while still ensuring academic rigor and accountability across both public and private schools.
She has been endorsed by the political action committee for the Indiana State Teachers Association, the state\u2019s largest teachers union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCormick has also vowed to fight for reproductive rights and freedoms, including restoring those rights and freedoms recently lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIndiana\u2019s Republican-led extreme abortion ban has taken away the right of women to make deeply personal decisions regarding their own healthcare,\u201d McCormick says. \u201cGovernment action should not compromise the health of its citizens or severely limit opportunities to reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCormick will be joined at the dinner by Dr. Kiley Adolph, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, and Dr. Valarie McCray, who is running for a seat in the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
